1. In the decision dated November 23, 1921,
the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts recognized and accepted that there were
two Christian Science Boards of Directors. One fiduciary, composed of 4 self-perpetuating
members deriving their powers from Mrs. Eddy.s 1892 Deed of Trust, and the other
ecclesiastical, composed of 5 members established in 1903 deriving their powers from
the Manual of the Church.
2. The Supreme Judicial Court recognized and accepted
that the estoppels in the 1903 Deed of Trust and in Article 35 of the Manual, on
page 104, prevent any changes in the church Manual following Mrs. Eddy's demise.
3.
The 1892 Deed of Trust is the nucleus of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, but
it has nothing to do with the Mother Church, or any ecclesiastical matter in any
way, and does not call for Mrs. Eddy's approval in writing or otherwise.
4.
By the principles of interpretation, recognized and accepted by the Court, the estoppel
clauses elsewhere in the church Manual govern.
