1. In a recent Bulletin from the Christian Science Board of Directors, the Directors
are saying that they "look for new ways to put the resources of the 14-acre
Christian Science Plaza to their most effective use... by moving the activities of
both the twenty-six story Administration building and the 5-story elongated Church
Colonnade building into the Christian Science Publish House."
2. In a
recent news release, the Chairman of the Christian Science Board of Directors, Nathan
Talbot, stated erroneously that "the Christian Science Publishing Society is
a wholly owned subsidiary of The Mother Church," and that the textbook of Christian
Science, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy,
is "the landmark work on spirituality and healing," making no reference
to Science and Health as being a textbook, nor as providing the Key to
the Scriptures.
3. According to the Boston Globe . . .
"The
First Church of Christ, Scientist plans to redevelop portions of its 14-acre property
in Boston's Back Bay, including the possible construction of new buildings, as it
looks to unload space and make money on its prime location.
"The Directors
are soliciting proposals from urban planners and architects concerning the addition
of secular office, retail or residential space on the largely open block between
the Prudential Center and Symphony Hall in Back Bay.
"The spacious campus
is governed by a special institutional zoning plan that allows new structures of
up to 75 feet tall, and in some cases up to 115 feet tall, but Barbara Burley, the
church's senior manager of Real Estate planning and operations expects the final
proposals to be for bigger buildings in excess of those height restriction."
"The
500 remaining employees of the church will be housed in the nine floor Publishing
House building on Massachusetts Avenue."
4. Why would the opinions of
neighbors and the public be heeded rather than the wisdom of faithful students of
Mary Baker Eddy who own the property, and have not given their approval of said plans
to destroy the symbolism of Mary Baker Eddy's Cause?
