Closing Out, Or Dissolving The Mother Church

1. Mary Baker Eddy never required Readers of the Branch Churches to be members of the Mother Church until after the Extension was built and dedicated in 1906, 57th Manual, Sect. 6 p.32, as in our present Manual today.

2. The 1892 Deed of Trust established a body of four grantees without organizing a church. Christian Scientists have and hold church property without going back to outgrown forms of church government.

3. No provision in the Manual for the directors to hold office under the heading "Church Officers" was made until seven years later, in the 10th edition of the Manual in 1899, and then simply as church functionaries unable to perpetuate themselves without Mrs. Eddy.s consent.

4. There were 55 organized and chartered branch churches in cities of the United States and Canada before the Mother Church was formed in 1892. In addition, there were 120 unorganized branch churches. What's more, 119 branches were formed between the interval of 1889-1892, before the Mother Church was formed.

5. Mrs. Eddy began to dissolve the Mother Church at the very beginning of the 21st Century. In 1901 she made her Last Will and Testament and completely changed the form of government of the Mother Church by taking the control of government into her own hands.

6. First Mrs. Eddy abolished the executive powers of the First Members and transferred their previous
powers to the Board of Directors, subject to her oversight and approval, thusly drawing all power into her own hands
through her Manual provisions; so that no major functions could be carried out without her approval.
. Then in 1901, Mrs. Eddy for the first time required her .written consent. in order to amend or annul
the bylaws that made provision for filling a vacancy on the Board of Directors. (22nd Manual, p.32).
8. Every vital function of the Mother Church was voided in 1901 by Mrs. Eddy.s contemplated passing
to come.

9. In 1901, her signature became required on all college certificates of the College for the succession
of the Vice President of the Massachusetts Metaphysical College to its presidency, precluding the continuance of the
College. She placed the written Word as one.s self-teacher above personal teaching. No personal teaching would be
required, nor official teaching allowed, after her passing.
10. In 1902, in the 26th Manual, Mrs. Eddy limited the terms of all officers to one year with her consent
required in her own hand writing for the election and re-election of offices, as reiterated under three separate headings,
.Clerk and Treasurer.; .Editors and Manager. (of the Christian Science Publishing Society with the Trustees)
and .Publication Committees. at Boston.
11. In 1903, in as much as the Extension was under way, Mrs. Eddy ended the Motherhood phase of her
ministry by renouncing the title of .Mother.. (29th Manual, p.61).
12. In 1903 Mrs. Eddy copyrighted the Manual in her own name so that her right to annul its provisions
at the time of her passing would be without question.
13. All provisions for discontinuing the Mother Church at the time of her passing with the Mother
Church, were made between 1901 and 1904, and these provisions were never changed.
14. In 1906, Mrs. Eddy made provision for each branch church in the event that she relinquished her
Leadership. (Manual, p.72).
15. Why would Mrs. Eddy.s countless changes in Science and Health between the 24th Manual in 1901
and the 88th Manual in 1910, issued before Mrs. Eddy passed on, be accepted without question while her Manual
prohibitions during that same time period are rejected in toto, in spite of the fact that she stated that her teachings in
the Manual, controlling the Mother Church, and in the Textbook, Science and Health, were equally inspired?
16. The "sound and disposing mind. requirement for the execution of a Will was legally tried, confirmed,
and sustained by a Court in 1907, six years after she made her personal Will. .For a woman of her age, I do
not hesitate to say that she is physically and mentally phenomenal." (Court Examiner sent to her home, in 1907)
